I interpret "AA" as games that could have been released in a very similar state 2 or 3 console generations ago before production values skyrocketed. Looking at the Game Pass games I've finished, I would classify most of them either into the "Indie"/ small budget category (that includes games like Immortality, As Dusk Falls, Firewatch, Death's Door, Unpacking, Art of Rally, Hollowknight) or the AAA big budget category (the big MS IPs, GTA, GOTG, NFS, Titanfall, Star Wars JFA). You can see where they had to cut corners compared to a high budget game, but the result is very much worth playing! That's the first game that came to my mind when I saw this topic. and I love it! I thought for a while that AA was basically dead, but it kind of feels like these games are back in action and Gamepass really delivers on this front. I guess because of the more modest budgets and expectations Gamepass can court these titles over the hottest big budget behemoths. I know the budgets are higher these days, but they really remind me of AA games from earlier generations. Clearly not games with infinite budgets, not necessarily the most polished (well Hi Fi Rush is an exception) or popular but they have a rustic charm and interesting ideas. These are the sort of games I've always gravitated towards that fill out my game collection while many of the biggest titles just slip right past me. Hi Fi Rush, Atomic Heart, Wo Long, now Exo Primal. I'm looking at the games I've played this year through Gamepass. If you have a better term for games that fall between indie and bloated budget AAA please float it in the thread! Alright, first off I know many people will disagree that the games I'm talking about are AA but I don't really have a better label.
